The next joint celebration QENS/WINS will constitute the 14th Edition of the QENS series and the 9th of the WINS workshops. Due to COVID, we will celebrate an online version of QENS/WINS during 17-21 May 2021 (QENS/WINS2021). A face-to-face Conference (QENS/WINS2022) will take place in San Sebastian, 23-27 May 2022.

QENS/WINS 2021 will span over the five days 17-21 May 2021. In a ‘moodle’, all information about the Conference will be available. Forums will be open where participants can pose / answer questions and exchange ideas throughout the meeting.

From 14:00h to 16:30h Central European Summer Time, Keynote and Invited talks will be offered. The talks will be recorded and will be available the day after to all the interested attendants.

In addition to the invited talks, poster-like presentations (including the possibility of videos and other complementary information) will be accessible for all attendants along the 5 days.

In a 30-minutes break, interaction among the participants will be promoted. We will have the opportunity to participate in a topical discussion or to live chat with colleagues:

Topical discussions: in this zoom meeting, every day we will have a different topic and discussion leader. Taking advantage of the exceptional environment provided by QENS/WINS, gathering both, users and instrument scientists, we arise several topics of broad interest for the neutron scattering community.

Live chats: if you just want to meet other participants and live chat with them during the break, this is your choice.

The chat room will be open from (UTC+2) 10:00h to 18:00h, such that you can live communicate there with colleagues and e.g. discuss about your posters… also before and after the lectures. To access this room, you will need a different password everyday. This will be shown in the moodle next to the link, and will also be displayed on the screen at the end of the lecture immediately before the break. In this oom you will always find somebody of the organization, ready to solve your questions.

Please download the Conference Book for more details.

QENS

Following the spirit of QENS Conferences since 1992, the main purpose of QENS is to cover the broad spectrum of scientific activities related with the investigation of material dynamics using quasi-elastic neutron scattering techniques (accessing both, frequency and time domains). QENS 2021 will offer a platform for discussion and exchange of scientific ideas among the experts in this field, and a general overview to newcomers about the capabilities of QENS in exploring atomic and molecular motions and relaxation processes of novel materials.

The following scientific topics will be covered:

Dynamics of liquids in different environments and under confinement

  • Dynamics of polymers in bulk, blends, gels, membranes, films, composites etc. at different length scales
  • Function/dynamics relation in biological and bio-related systems
  • Role of dynamics in systems of medical relevance
  • Transport mechanisms in energy-related materials
  • Dynamical processes in soft matter, including liquid crystals, self-assembled materials, colloids, etc.
  • Dynamics of novel materials for industrial applications
  • Relaxation phenomena involved in the glass transition
  • Lattice dynamics and Spin dynamics of magnetic systems

WINS

WINS --the 9th Workshop on Inelastic Neutron Spectrometers– will cover innovative aspects of neutron instrument design. Progresses on new spectrometer projects will be presented. As in previous editions, the theme of “New idea, New concept, New design, New instrumentation for New sciences” will be followed. New developments in the application of polarization analysis, magnetic field, pressure, or improvements in sample environments for soft matter systems will be covered. Software for data acquisition, analysis and instrument simulation will be also part of the program.

The workshop will consider:

  • New ideas, new concepts and new designs for neutron spectrometers
  • Novel devices, detectors and sample environments: polarization, magnetic field, pressure, soft matter environments
  • Software for data acquisition and analysis
  • Complementary computer methods for instrument simulation

Why a joint QENS/WINS?

QENS focusses on the discussion and exchange of scientific ideas related to the investigation of atomic and molecular motions, while WINS deals with instrumental aspects of quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering techniques. Though originally QENS and WINS were held in an independent way, the added value of their joint celebration has been put forward since it enhances their scope and impact on the scientific community related with the quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering techniques.

Diversity Statement

QENS/WINS invites participation from people of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, ages, abilities and religions.
